CHIEFTAINCY MINISTRY HOLDS PRELIMNARY WORKSHOP TO REFORM THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF CHIEFTAINCY INSTITUTION

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has begun a two-day preliminary workshop to review the legal framework of the chieftaincy institution in the country.

The workshop which is being held at Ada in the Greater Accra Region is expected to evaluate statutory and customary roles of the chieftaincy institutions through the lenses of existing legal provisions. It is also aimed at addressing institutional inadequacies in contemporary governance.

Over 50 participants were drawn from the national and regional houses of chiefs across the country for the maiden exercise.

Addressing the participants, of the review workshop, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Benjamin Afful underscored the need for legal reform of the chieftaincy institution to reflect modernity as well as address the complexity of future challenges.
