The Chief Director for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mrs. Halima S. Yakubu has called on the Chiefs and Queenmothers to represent Ghana well at the International Junkanoo Festival slated to be held in Canada to showcase to the world the rich culture of Ghana.

She said as custodians of the values and customs of the country, Traditional Leaders should promote the Ghanaian culture to the diaspora and encourage them to come home to learn more about their heritage. Mrs. Halima made these comments when she represented the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng at the Press Launch of the International Junkanoo Festival for Tourism and Culture on Friday, 23rd February, 2024 in Accra. The International Junkanoo Festival is scheduled to come off from 21st May to 26th May, 2024 in Canada.

She charged the organizers of the Festival to ensure that they make follow-ups by engaging with institutions that can support them so that they can work diligently to ensure the vision for the festival materialize.

The Executive Director for National Commission on Culture, Nana Otuo Owoahene Acheampong speaking at the launch said culture was diverse but unique, making it easy to identify the culture of every individual. He was hopeful that parents will be strict with teaching their children their culture.

According to him if the younger generation could speak their local dialect and appreciate their local dishes, the heritage of Ghana will continue to be firm.
